Battle Gem Ponies DevLog #73 (Post-Graduation, It's ON)

I graduated, and now it's time to make something of myself. Being honest, I have the same goal Bill Gates did in college. To become a millionaire before age 30. Lot's of people I read about seem to be achieving career goals around age 24, and I'm already 22 so I better get on it.

Get on down below the break to see more of this amazing week in the life of a college gamedev.

Celebrated my degree with my family!
Got some followup paperwork to do for conventions.
This is going to be a great summer.

I'm drafting panel descriptions.
The top paragraph is the full version and the bottom is limited to 276 characters.

   Completed:
  • Graduated from the Pennsylvania College of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Gaming & Simulation.
  • Fixed Macbook Pro (seriously this time)
  • Updated LinkedIn
  • Moved In with Parents in Florida
  • Added New Facebook Albums
  • Saved Enough for Summer/Fall Conventions
  • Paleburg Music Draft Revision
  • BronyCon Followup Emails
  • Panel Descriptions
  • Purchased FillyCon Tickets (locked in now)
  • Organized Inspiration Art Folders (going to sketch all 60 ponies tomorrow)
     Lessons Learned:
  • Keep tons of backup computers handy. These things are not reliable.
  • In practice, 6 hours of sleep leads to waking up groggy and dozing off at my desk after working out in the afternoon, so I'll make it 7 hours.
  • I think I'll try managing a beard this year and start wearing hats.
  • No. I do not under any circumstances want to pursue a Master's Degree in anything.
  • Graduation was really fun. You get a special kind of goosebumps and teary eyes when you walk down toward the stage as that graduation theme plays.
A day so long and eventful, it felt like two.
I got enough money from graduation presents to cover the BronyCon/FillyCon trip! Now I just have to save up for food and emergencies. I might even have new credit cards by then for that. Day one of adulthood and short-term financial goals are already met.

I can't begin to tell you how often those PayPal donations save
my financial butt every month. An extra monthly $10 goes a long way.

The first thing anyone wants to know when graduation comes up is what's coming next. My next chapter just happens to be of the rare, risky, and confusing variety. I need to sit down and explain how indie game development works to my parents sometime this week.

Can I do 25K downloads total across all platforms within 2 months of launching BGP? If I do, my parents can rest easy and let me go. Let's make 'em proud just one more time.

    Featured:

Standing with one diploma folder and a very proud Mom.

No honors to graduate with. I did well, but not obsessively well. I took my A's/B's (and C's in Calculus) with stride and kept moving. Where some went above and beyond in the classroom, I put that effort into portfolio work that wasn't assigned to me. I think my website shines brighter than any report card could have.

In other news, I have 155 Facebook likes now. And only 82 of them are people I know! Gotta increase that number big-time though. A polished Demo 5 should do it.

No official grad pics yet, but I promise, it happened.
That stuff's in the mail for 3 weeks.

Battle Gem Ponies Demo 5 needs to be out weeks ahead of BronyCon. This is not an optional goal. The 6th demo needs to be underway and polished presentational assets need to be generated to make my panels awesome. No time left to waste thanks to last month's computer problems. I can't afford to miss the opportunity to impress this year. The crunch begins now.
