Battle Gem Ponies DevLog #91 (Pushing Past Setbacks)

This week was spent making menus. Multiple times in fact since Unity kept crashing after an update and I had to start over on these things at least 5 times.

What you're seeing in the picture above is the in-engine concept I have for the move learning screen. The white one at the top will always be the move currently assigned to the specified slot and the grey ones below it are a list you can scroll through to look for a new move to use.

If you want to see more, just look on down below!

Basic idea for the Customization screen.
Edit your stats with this simplified EV management system.
Get 5 more points assigned every level up. Micromanage to your heart's content.

   Completed:
  • Customization Menu Interfaces
  • Edited Spreadsheets for Moves and Items
  • Fixed Bugs Caused By Town Tilemap Corruption
  • Endured Second Wave of Breakup Turmoil/Distraction
  • Wrote New Story Point Ideas
  • Listened to Current BGP Soundtrack on Loop Multiple Times in a Row
  • Conducted a Short Playtest with a Pokemon Fan
  • Reached Out to Floridian Pokemon Fans and Made a Few Friends
     Lessons Learned:
  • I went to a Pokemon GO meetup in the beautiful Lake Eola Park last Saturday and I got to see how people gather and play the game en masse. I even made a few friends to fill that social void that's been bugging me for months.
  • Having a social life actually helps motivate me. Reminds me of what I'm working towards. Having enough money to live on my own, eat well, and go on fun adventures with friends.
Gotta admit. I spent most of the week distracted and angsty. It's starting to fade now and I'm feeling more optimistic so I'm sure this week in productivity will turn out much better. Build 6 is slowly (and sometimes painfully) coming along, I'm noticing results from working out hard all these years, and making friends within driving distance makes me feel less hopeless and stranded.

   Downloads:

Thousands of people still finding Unicorn Training every day. Can't wait to see that many picking up the Battle Gem Ponies Demo on the app store.

    Featured:

It's official Orscina is the fan favorite and Sweet-Bot is the OP powerhorse. To this day I've only ever seen fan art of Orscina and yet another person who played the game right in front of me said she's the most beautiful pony with the nicest animations. I can't NOT have her as an option for the starter ponies. And I'm definitely keeping Sweet-Bot as a pony you can't get until towards the end. The bad guys are going to have a lot of Xenoirs, Alphakes, Puffus, and Sweet-Bots at their disposal.

This screen might be the most important one for the upcoming demo. It's here where you manage who's in your gem pool you compose your party with. All the menus are in now, but I need to code and test each one so they actually do their jobs.
